"It's such a big day for me," Tucker Day said. "It's been an emotional day for me too. It all started with me leaving Coach (Dan) Mullen's office and thinking that things were probably not going to work out there. I had a good visit, but I left there thinking I was probably heading somewhere else."
Day's feelings about Mississippi State and his college destination changed in a major way earlier this afternoon.
"I went to sleep for two and a half hours and I woke up to a message from Coach Mullen," Day shared. "He told me that I had a full ride from Mississippi State and to call him when I got the message. I called and he didn't answer, but I called Coach (Chris) Boniol.
"I asked him what the message meant, because I was a little confused. He told me that it means exactly what it said. I have a full ride from Mississippi State."
The Bulldogs join Army, Colorado State, Illinois, Rutgers and San Diego State among others who have extended an offer. The difference is that Day has elected to accept the offer from Mississippi State and enroll for classes this summer.
"I am just so excited," Day said. "They want me to come in as a punter and kick off guy. I can do some field goal stuff too, but they are talking mainly about punting and some of the kick off stuff."
The Brentwood, Tennessee specialist has forged a solid bond with another Bulldog kicking target, Joseph Bulovas of Mandeville, Louisiana. With Day now in the Bulldog boat, he plans to aid in the Mississippi State efforts to land Bulovas.
"Oh, you know it," Day said of becoming the Bulldogs' lead recruiter for Bulovas. "We're going to have a lot of fun. I am just so excited right now."
Day is ranked as a five star punter by Kohl's kicking and a three and a half star by the same service. Noted kicking expert Chris Sailer ranks Day as the top punting prospct in the country for the 2017 signing class.
