Class of 2018 Mississippi State baseball commitment talks MSU

Brandon (MS) High School class of 2018 infielder/right-hand pitcher J.T. Ginn, a Mississippi State commitment, provided an update after recently camping at Mississippi State baseball.

  • Name: JT Ginn
  • Classification: 2018
  • Position: Infielder/Righthand Pitcher
  • Ht: Wt: 6-foot-2, 200
  • Bats-Throws: R/R
  • High School: Brandon (MS) High School
  • Schools of Interest: Mississippi State Commitment

Ginn hit three home runs in six swings during a batting practice session at a recent Mississippi State baseball camp.

"The last time I was here, probably a year and a half ago, I hit a couple of balls good but I didn't hit any over the fence," said the 6-foot-2, 200-pounder. "Today, I hit three out in six swings. I wasn't expecting that."

But it shouldn't have come as that much of a surprise.

"I have worked out in the weight room and got on the tee, trying to fix a few things in my swing, and I have seen an increase in my power," said Ginn. "The last time I was at Mississippi State I hit 89-91 (miles per hour) off of the exit velo tee. Today, I got 101."

He hopes to see even more improvement in the coming months and even years.

"Doing that gives you confidence in the way you are working because it shows that it is paying off," said Ginn. "And I plan to continue working just as hard going forward."

Not only has Ginn seen an increase in his power at the plate but also from his arm.

"When I came up here the last time I was throwing something like 88-90 miles per hour," said Ginn. "At the end of the summer this past year I was throwing 92-94 consistently."

Attending the Mississippi State camp and being around his future coaches causes him to be even more excited about the thought of playing baseball at State.

"It is the best place in the country to play baseball," said Ginn. "You can't beat it. I like the pressure of playing in front of big crowds. It is fun getting to show everybody what you can do. And I love the coaching staff because they are really great. I think it is a good fit for me. I'm just excited to get up here."

He has also formed a strong bond with Mississippi State's new head baseball coach, Andy Cannizaro.

"I love Coach Cannizaro," said Ginn. "He is very energetic. The first time I met him I liked him a lot. And the more I am around him, the more I like him."
