Now that you've had time to reflect on it, what are your thoughts about your first game on the college level.
"I was nervous at first, but after that first play, I felt like I belonged there."
Overall, how do you think you did in the game?
"I made some mistakes that I could have avoided, but I'm not going to blame those on me being a freshman. Overall, the coaches felt that I did a good job. I listen to them. If they think I did a good job, then I believe I did, but I still expect more out of myself."
What were some mistakes that you made? Were they missed assignments or maybe the guy you went against physically dominated you at times?
"I didn't have a missed assignment all game. And I didn't get physically dominated. It was just bad technique on some plays where I might not have set down low enough."
I was at the game and watched it again on ESPN2. I really think the offensive line played well for the first three quarters, then, in the fourth quarter, it appeared their defensive line rushed Kevin much better. Was that more due to you guys having to pass and they knew that?
"In the fourth quarter, you have to look at it like this, they got to the point where they were just teeing off. They knew we had to pass the ball because we were down by three touchdowns. Naturally, they were getting more pressure because they were running more blitzes and stunts."
Overall, as a line, was your coach, Steve Campbell, pleased with the line's play or not pleased?
"He was pleased with the way we played. He felt that we could have ran more. And we think we could have ran a lot more than we did. I really think we surprised a lot of people, because they didn't think we were going to play that well and have that cohesiveness, but we did."
There's been some talk from a few Oregon fans that MSU's players did some illegal blocks to their players. What do you think about those comments?
"No, that's just part of the game. That's just how we play the game down here in the south. We were taught to go after them until the whistle is blown. I know some of the plays they are talking about and I don't think they were illegal. We were just getting after them. If we didn't make that block you don't know what would have happened. The quarterback might have rolled back the other way and that guy could have made the play. We don't want to leave anything to chance around here."
Was there any jawing by their players because of those plays?
"Yeah, there was a lot of jawing. You saw that they got a couple of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. There was a lot of jawing going on, but that's how we like it. We just play our game silently and let our actions speak for us."
(Otis played with a cast on his hand due to a surgery he went through a couple of weeks ago.-Gene) Was your surgery two weeks ago?
"Yeah, it was exactly two weeks ago yesterday."
What exactly did they do?
"They had to go in and cut my tendon and put a pin in my finger. The also had to put an anchor on the top of my knuckle to hold it straight."
Did it not bother you to play with it during the game?
"Yeah, it hurt throughout the entire game. I'm not going to lie to you, it hurt throughout the game."
