Mullen built on his largest December signing haul by adding eleven more on the first day of February. That brings the total to 24 which, according to Mississippi State officials, is all for this group.
Then again…a year ago on this day it was a 20-player class presented to the public. By preseason camp it was 20 with a couple of late summer additions. Still indications are that this combined December/February list is supposed to be completed.
Today’s total actually fits the Mullen pattern. He has officially signed now 219 players (announced either on signing days or added later) in nine years, a 24.3 average. That is likely higher than most fans believe since there were a couple of 20-player classes in recent years due to the 85-man NCAA annual limit.
What will surprise fans is how many early-enrollees Mullen has been able to bring to Mississippi State for spring semester…and thus spring practice. That total is now up to 50, or almost 23% of his total signees. Though to be clear an unprecedented December 2016 group of 13 has inflated the average.
Also, there have been 35 junior college signees or 16% of his total recruits, whether inked early or in February.
