Veteran Defensive Coach Accepts Second Offer to Join Mullen's MSU Staff

Nothing against the west coast, understand. He was born and raised out there. It’s just that after a season on that side of the divide, Ron English was ready to get back to true college football country.

“I’ve been around a bunch of places, and I’m very happy to be here,” Mississippi State’s new safeties coach said. “I said there are only two places I want to coach, the Big Ten and the SEC. I am very fortunate to be here with a great head coach and a great defensive coordinator.”

English has been selected by Dan Mullen to take charge of the safeties as part of new coordinator Todd Grantham’s defensive staff. Though English has never schemed against a Mississippi State team…he has faced Mullen before.

“When he had Tim Tebow, down at Florida,” English points out. He likes the memory too because Michigan won that bowl game. In fact Mullen courted English to come with him to Starkville back in 2009, “but at the time I had committed to another job.”

So it’s taken eight years but at last Mullen has made an offer English didn’t refuse. The new coach made his first meeting with local media today.
