Ft. Payne, Alabama kicker Evan McPherson picked up the option of wearing Maroon and White over the weekend.

Mississippi State has already extended offers to dozens of talented junior prospects across the country. On Saturday, Ft. Payne, Alabama kicker Evan McPherson joined that number. The talented specialist reports that the Bulldogs have a lot of what he is looking for in a college program.

"We got the chance to meet with Coach (Dan) Mullen pretty much as soon as I got there," Evan McPherson shared. "When I got there, I met with Coach (Chris) Boniol and he told me get signed in and to get ready to go visit with Coach Mullen. It wasn't long after I got there, that I was upstairs visiting with him."

During the conversation between McPherson and Mississippi State's head coach, the topic of a scholarship offer was raised.

"We were just sitting there talking and Coach Mullen just came out with it. He told me that I had a full scholarship from Mississippi State," McPherson said. "That was a big moment for me. I was really excited about it. It's a great school and a great offer."

McPherson is no stranger to Mississippi State. The 6-0, 165 pounder has taken the opportunity to get to know the Bulldogs over the course of the last year.

"I went to three games over there this season and I went to the kicking camp there this summer," McPherson said. "During Junior Day, I got to see a lot more and get to see more of the facilities and just more of the campus. It's a really good school."

The Bulldogs are the last in line of early offers for the talented kicker. Army, Iowa State, Miami and Rutgers have also extended scholarship opportunities. Known as a kicker/punter combo specialist, McPherson excels as a field goal kicker and is a prospect in demand in the early going.

"I wasn't sure it was going to happen this fast for me, but I hoped that it would build into something like this," McPherson said of his early scholarship haul. "I thought that I may start getting some options after the summer camp this year, but I am excited about everything that is happening."

McPherson is not sure when he will pull the trigger on his college decision, but the Alabama product has a good idea about what he wants in a college football experience.

"I am not sure when I am going to make a decision," McPherson said. "I am going to be taking an unofficial visit to Miami pretty soon. I want to visit a lot of colleges and see what everyone has to offer. I know that wherever I go I want to go somewhere that has a great kicking coach.

"I don't want to just go somewhere that they have another coach just over special teams. I want to play for a coach who can make me a better kicker and help me develop into the best player that I can be."

McPherson is currently ranked as the #1 kicker nationally for the 2018 signing class by Chris Sailer kicking. The Ft. Payne High school standout is under consideration by All-American All--Star committees and is expected to named to the Alabama All-Star team this summer.
