"I have offers from Mississippi State, Florida State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Louisville, Arkansas State and South Alabama," Jeffery Johnson said. "I have been hearing from a few other schools. I have talked some with Florida, but they haven't offered me yet."
It is all happening fast for the personable Johnson. The 6-3, 310 pounder had high expectations for his college recruitment, but the pace of interest as well as scholarship offers have been much quicker than anticipated.
"I was hoping to get some offers during the summer," Johnson said. "I thought I might start getting some offers after the camps and before the season. Once I got my first one, then the other started coming in. It's exciting.
"I am glad that I am getting these offers early, so that I have the time to go and and visit all of the schools before I make a decision."
Johnson has had the chance to get out a go a good bit over the course of the last year. A regular visitor to the in state programs of Mississippi, Johnson wants to see what every school of interest has to offer.
"I have been to Florida State for junior day. Me and my mama are driving to Oxford this weekend to go to Ole Miss," Johnson explained. "I went to a lot of college games last year. I went to Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Southern Miss. I plan to go go a lot this year too.
"I am going to try and visit some schools this spring, go to some practices and go to some camps."
Florida State recently hosted Johnson on an unofficial visit and it appears that the Seminoles made a strong impression. Now wanting to make an emotional decision, Johnson plans to take his time and see where he fits the best.
"I am going to keep everybody even for right now," Johnson said. "I plan on making my decision after the season. I want to see where I fit in the best and where I really feel at home. That is one of the most important things to me. I want to find a place that feels like home and where I can be part of a family."
As a junior, Johnson had a hand in 51 tackles, nine sacks, two quarterback hurries, a forced fumble and a recovered fumble. Johnson is expected to be a shoe in selection when the Mississisppi/Alabama All-Star rosters are announced later this year.
