"I am excited to announce that I am committed to Mississippi State University," McPherson said on Twitter on Saturday night. "I would like to thank Coach Dan Mullen and Coach Chris Boniol for giving me the opportunity to join the Mississippi State family."
McPherson was one of several recruiting targets who attended the Bulldogs' annual Maroon and White game on Saturday as Mullen's team worked through some of their final practice paces of the spring.
"Mississippi State just feels like home and I feel really comfortable there," McPherson shared with Genespage.com. "I wanted to get this out of the way, so I could enjoy my senior year."
The good news was welcomed by Bulldog fans, Dan Mullen and the entire McPherson family alike. Mississippi State missed a pair of field goals in today's Maroon and White game, so this verbal pledge may be celebrated a little more than most.
"Coach Mullen was very excited," McPherson said of the big moment. "My family loves this opportunity and they love Mississippi State. It's a relief to commit, because I really love Mississippi State."
A junior day visitor to Starkville earlier this year, McPherson picked the Bulldogs over offers from Army, Iowa State, Kentucky, Miami, Nebraska, Rutgers and others. The Alabama standout is the eight verbal pledge toward the 2018 signing class and the first from the state of Alabama for the Bulldogs this recruiting cycle.
McPherson is expected to represent Alabama in the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star game and is a candidate for some All-American game invites. Chris Sailer Kicking ranks McPherson as the #1 kicker nationally..
