Class of 2019 four-star guard Grant Sherfield Update

Mansfield Summit (TX) High School class of 2019 four-star guard Grant Sherfield is being as thorough as possible with the recruiting process.

  • Name: Grant Sherfield
  • Classification: 2019
  • High School: Mansfield Summit (Arlington, TX)
  • Position: Point Guard
  • HT-WT: 6-foot-2, 185
  • Ranking: 4-Star (40th in his class)
  • AAU Team: Marcus Smart YGC36
  • Colleges of Interest: Numerous schools throughout the nation

Grant recently told’s Brian Snow that, “UCLA has been on me really hard, Oklahoma State, Texas, Kansas, pretty much the whole Big XII, Mississippi State, and a few other schools.”

According to Grant’s dad, Antione Sherfield, they are currently taking the recruiting process slow and easy.

“At this stage he is interested in anyone who is taking the time to show interest in him,” said Antione. “It is really early and he is young, so he is trying to evaluate all schools. He is looking at, number 1, academics because he wants to do well academically and, number 2, he wants to do well on the court. He also wants to be an impact on the community in some way.”

They plan on ramping up the recruiting process soon, though.

“Once they are through with the first live period of AAU ball, we want to reach out to some schools and visit campuses,” said Antione. “We are big on wanting him to see things early so it may help him with the decision down the road.”

With many student-athletes, the athlete part of the phase student-athlete comes first in a big way. Not so with this four-star recruit because he is just as good in the classroom as he is on the court.

“He is actually going into an OnRamps program next semester through the University of Texas on our campus where he should walk out of high school with 12 to 15 college hours,” said Antione. “Next semester he will take English and his Math through the University of Texas OnRamps program.”

Grant even has an excellent idea what he will major in once on a college campus.

“He wants to go into sports management so he will get a business degree with some type of connection to sports management,” said Antione.

Being from the state of Texas, Grant is aware of all the schools from his state as well as the surrounding states. But he is also aware of a school two states over from Texas, Mississippi State.

“He is aware of (Mississippi State head coach) Ben Howland’s success at UCLA,” said Antione. “And a guy that he had to face last year on the summer (AAU) circuit, Nik Weatherspoon, is going there.”

And Mississippi State is definitely interested in Sherfield.

“(Mississippi State assistant) Coach (Ernie) Zeigler came to one of his practices and got to watch him work out a little bit and then offered him on the spot through his coach after watching him work,” said Antione.

Keep it on as we continue to follow the recruitment of his very talented member of the class of 2019.
