MSU class of 2017 baseball signee Jordan Westburg update

An analysis of Mississippi State class of 2017 signee Jordan Westburg, a middle infielder from New Braunfels (TX) High School.

  • Name: Jordan Westburg
  • Classification: 2017
  • Position: MIF
  • Ht: Wt: 6-2, 190
  • Bats-Throws: R-R
  • High School: New Braunfels (TX) High School

High School - Westburg was selected to the 2017 Preseason Rawlings-Perfect Game All-American Team as an Honarable Mention selection. He was also a Perfect Game 2016 Underclass High Honorable Mention All-American. He is an excellent student with a 3.97 GPA.

2017 Season - Westburg is hitting .457 wth 4 home runs, 36 runs scored and 22 RBIs.

Recruiting - He chose Mississipi State over Texas, Houston, Kentucky and Baylor.

2017 MLB Draft - Westburg projects to be drafted in the 10 to 12 round range due to his size, speed and hitting ability.

MSU 2018 Season - While he might be drafted in the middle rounds, I see him choosing MSU over going pro out of high school. He is a very projectable prospect who already has a very athletic, physical frame at 6-2, 190 and top of the batting order footspeed and hitting ability. He should compete for early playing time in his career, even as early as his true freshman season.
