MSU class of 2017 baseball signee Chad Bryant update

An analysis of Mississippi State class of 2017 signee Chad Bryant, a right-hand pitcher from Thomasville (AL) High School.

  • Name: Chad Bryant
  • Classification: 2017
  • Position: RHP
  • Ht: Wt: 6-1, 200
  • Bats-Throws: R-R
  • High School: Thomasville (AL) High School

High School - Bryant was selected to the 2017 Rawlings-Perfect Game Preseason All-American Team as a 2nd Team member. He was also a Perfect Game 2016 Underclass 1st Team All-American. Perfect Game rates him a 10, which means he is a potential very high draft pick and/or Elite level college prospect. He is rated the 80th best prospect in the class of 2017 by Perfect Game.

2017 Season - Bryant was limited in the number of innings that he pitched this season due to precautionary reasons. He is now back to pitching and is consistently throwing in the 89-93 miles per hour range, topping out at 94.

Recruiting - He committed to Mississippi State as a sophomore. He also had early offers from Southern Miss and Jacksonville State.

2017 MLB Draft - Bryant is listed as being drafted anywhere from the 10th to the 12 rounds in various mock drafts. Although he is talented enough to go higher than that, not pitching much this season will likely limit him going much higher than those rounds.

MSU 2018 Season - As of now, I see Bryant not going pro and being on campus next fall. With a low 90s fastball and a hammer curve, I could see him being ready for middle relief work his true freshman season. But I ultimately see him being a starter for the Bulldogs.
