Carver High head basketball coach James Jackson has high praise for Gordon.
"He can play. I love him. He is one of the top 9th graders in the state of Alabama," said Jackson. "Rongie is one of those guys who knows what he wants and he is working to get it. It is sometimes hard to get a 9th grader to understand what it takes to be one of the top guys in basketball. But he is one of those guys who understands."
Gordon explained where his drive and hard work comes from.
"I noticed that I was pretty good around my 6th grade year when I got invited to the CBD camp for the top players in my class," said Gordon. "It went from there. But I knew I had to have the drive and work ethic to get to where I want to go."
Gordon has confidence in his ability to play basketball.
"I can do mostly anything," he said. "I can post up, shoot, dribble, play defense. I can run up and down the court. I can block shots, rebound. I am just an all around player. I want my coach to be able to put me anywhere on the floor."
He feels he is best at doing three things on the court.
"I am best at rebounding, posting up and defending," said Gordon.
He proved how good he is at rebounding at a recent AAU tournament in California.
"He plays with the Atlanta Express and he just got back from California where he was one-point shy of setting the rebound record in one of those big tournaments that they had out there," said Jackson. "He has averaged a double-double all summer for his AAU team."
Several colleges have started recruiting the talented forward.
"The SEC schools love him," said Jackson. "I think by the end of the summer he will have offers."
