Class of 2018 ILB Hayes Maples stock continues to soar

Hayes Maples, an inside linebacker from Oak Grove Attendance Center in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, camped at Mississippi State last Saturday. The bruising backer definitely looked the part as his bulky stature went through drills. Overall, the experience was great for Maples.

"It was a good experience today," said Maples. "There were a lot less linebackers here than I expected so I had a chance to get a lot of reps. I think I did pretty good. I was not sure what my forty time was, but my recruiting coach came up to me and was impressed, because he did not know I was that fast. My one-on-ones went pretty good. I got beat a couple of times but it happens. I just kept working and striving to get better every rep."

For some time, Maples has hoped for an offer from Mississippi State. Although the Bulldogs have yet to pull the trigger, there is interest on the Bulldogs side. Other schools have seen the potential in Maples as he has amassed five scholarship offers to date.

"I would really love an offer from Mississippi State and Ole Miss. Those have been dream offers for a while," Maples stated. "Coach (Todd) Grantham came to my school and checked in on me. I am not sure if they plan on offering yet, but I am going to keep working and see what the future holds. As far as offers that I already have, Southern Miss, Memphis, FAU, Troy and South Alabama have all offered. Tulane and ULL are showing me a lot of interest right now, so I think they could be close to offering."

Although Maples does have a list of suitors, one school is sticking out from the bunch currently.

"Right now, Southern Miss is really sticking out to me," said Maples. "They hit me up a lot and let me know that I am wanted. They are showing me a ton of love right now."
