All total, coach Rick Stansbury's Bulldogs participated in a trio of mini-scrimmages on the day, including a pair of 12-minute segments to close out Saturday's action.
Junior center Marcus Campbell was strong in the post with 27 points and 15 rebounds, while junior swingman Winsome Frazier provided some perimeter scoring punch with 25 points. Reigning all-SEC senior guard and team co-captain Timmy Bowers also enjoyed a productive all-around performance for MSU with 23 points, eight rebounds, six steals and four assists.
Also scoring in double digits for the Bulldogs were newcomers Shane Power and Terry Licorish with a dozen points apiece, followed by senior co-captain Branden Vincent and true freshman Dietric Slater with 11 points each. Rookie point guard Gary Ervin added eight points and a scrimmage-best nine assists.
The defending SEC Western Division Champion Bulldogs will play host to a pair of professional teams during exhibition competition this preseason, beginning with Saturday's (Nov. 8) home contest against the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the Continental Basketball Association. Tip-off for State's exhibition opener is slated for 4 p.m. at Humphrey Coliseum, following the Bulldogs' 11:30 a.m. home football game versus Alabama. The following Saturday (Nov. 15), MSU will conclude preseason action by welcoming back former Bulldog all-American and NBA All-Star Jeff Malone and his Columbus Riverdragons club of the National Basketball Development League. Tip-off time for State's Nov. 15 exhibition finale will be determined at a later date. Both upcoming exhibition contests will be open to the public with no charge for admission.
Mississippi State's 92nd season of collegiate basketball competition will commence Saturday, Nov. 22, as the Bulldogs play host to Tennessee-Martin in a 7 p.m. contest at Humphrey Coliseum.
