Offensive coordinator Woody McCorvey will bring vast collegiate coaching experience to my staff. The athletes will respond well to his direction. I consider J.B. Grimes to be one of the top offensive line coaches in the country. He will join our staff shortly. Freddie Kitchens and Amos Jones are both enthusiastic recruiters who have been associated with winners throughout their careers. And I have retained Guy Holliday, who did a wonderful job with the Bulldog receivers last year, on my new staff. All of these men bring the qualities of leadership and integrity that I want instilled in our players.
It is my goal to prepare the young men who join our program in all facets of life, so that they will be a success in football, in the classroom, and after they leave this fine institution. I will bring a new era of expectation to our football program, one founded on individual discipline.
My first goal will be to ensure that our young men conduct themselves in a way that will reflect positively on this team, this university, and the state of Mississippi. I expect our players to handle themselves with class and dignity.
I look forward to meeting you in the coming days. I was impressed the way the Mississippi State family supported the Bulldogs this past Thanksgiving night under some difficult circumstances. I look forward to visiting with you soon and know that I can count on your being in Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field next fall. Go Bulldogs.
