Rick Stansbury Quotes.

MSU rebounded and played defense well tonight.
"Those are two things that have to be constant with your basketball team, particularly on the road. You aren't always going to shoot the ball well on the road. It's just different on the road.

"I thought that our team, in the second half, defended and rebounded well. Lawrence (Roberts) had 4 rebounds at halftime and ended up with 14. I think (Branden) had 4 and ended up with 9. Because of that, we got a lot of put-backs."

You've now won all 11 of your non-conference games this season.
"We've had different people, at different times, to step up and make plays, offensively and defensively. I like that about this team."

Branden Vincent had another strong game tonight.
"He and Lawrence got 2 fouls in the first half and had to sit on the bench for a good period of time. In the second half, we didn't sub him or Lawrence much and they stepped up and controlled the backboard."

The effect the zone had on the game.
"We were very active in the zone. We trapped a few times and spread them out. They didn't get a lot of easy looks. I thought the zone slowed the pace of the game down for them and allowed us to stretch the lead out."

Now you have to get ready for the second season, SEC conference play starting with Ole Miss in Oxford Wednesday night.
"Anytime you go on the road it is difficult. It just so happens that we open up SEC play on the road against our (in-state) rival. We'll meet (Sunday) and start talking about our next season, which starts on the road Wednesday night."

Basketball notes...

  • MSU has played their last four games on the road. MSU's next opponent is another road game, Ole Miss in Oxford this Wednesday night.
  • MSU has lost to Ole Miss in Oxford both years they started their season off 11-0.
  • While MSU has won 11 in a row, Ole Miss is also on a tear, winning their last 6.
  • MSU usually uses 7 or 8 players per game while Ole Miss goes 11 deep.
  • Ole Miss' home attendance is approximately 1,850 per game. Although there are tickets available for the game, the Ole Miss students will be back in class Wednesday, so tickets could go fast the day of the game.
