Trell Kimmons update

Gene's Page caught up with Coldwater (MS) High School defensive back/wide receiver Trell Kimmons (5-10, 172, 4.3) Thursday night. Trell, who is also a big-time track sprinter (10.22 100 meters), talked about the schools he is interested in and which one he is leaning to.

Is Mississippi State recruiting you?
"Yes sir."

Have they set up an official visit?
"Yes sir, I have my visit set up for the 23rd."

Do you have any other visits set up other than Mississippi State?
"No sir."

What other schools are showing interest in you?
"LSU, West Virginia, Ole Miss, Jackson State, Southern Miss, Southern Illinois, Northwest (CC), Hinds (CC), and Barton Community College in Kansas. Alabama and West Virginia are recruiting me for football."

What is Mississippi State recruiting you for, football or track?

What do you run the 100 meters in?
"10.22. I ran that last year in Oxford."

What is you best 100 meters time?
"That was."

What do you normally run the 100 meters in?
"10.3 to 10.4."

What events do you run in track?
"I run the 100, 200, 400 and the 400 relays."

What is your best in the 200 and 400?
"I got a 21.1 in the 200 and a 49.0 in the 400."

How did you do in last year's state track meet?
"I didn't run in the state because I tore my quad. I was squatting in powerlifting and tore it. I won the 155 class in state powerlifting last year and that was when I got hurt."

Do you remember your totals?
"I had 1,300 pounds total. I had 225 in the bench, 530 in the squat and deadlifted 545."

Getting back to your recruitment, what position is Mississippi State recruiting you for?
"Safety and wide receiver."

Would you consider yourself a physical player, a player who likes to tackle?
"Oh yeah, oh yeah."

Which school or schools are you most interested in?
"I am going to sign with Mississippi State."

What is it about Mississippi State that you like?
"It is close to home and my family can come see me play. And I have my boy, LeChristopher Lewis down there. He is on the track team."

What schools have offered scholarships?
"Alabama has offered in football and Mississippi State has offered in track. I am going on my (Mississippi State) football visit on the 23rd."

Is State going to offer in football?
"I've talked to the football coach one time and he was the one to set up the visit."
