Lady Bulldogs face Lady Volunteers

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs (5-8) host the Tennessee Lady Volunteers (11-1) on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. CT in Humphrey Coliseum. The Lady Bulldogs have been unsuccessful thus far against the Vols with an 0-21 record, however the last two meetings in Starkville have been determined by less than four points - Feb. 17, 2000 UT, 79-75 and Feb. 14, 2002 UT, 80-78.

MSU dropped its first conference decision to No. 9 Georgia on Thursday, 88-70. Senior guard/forward Seneca Anderson led the Lady Bulldogs tying a career-high 18 points. Three other Bulldogs were in double digits - Tan White with 16, Tiania Burns and Blessing Chekwa had 10 apiece. White is leading the team with 16.5 ppg, while Burns is posting 14.6 ppg and Anderson is averaging 11.1 ppg.

Anderson is leading the Lady Bulldogs with a 51.8 field goal percentage. The Benton, Miss. native has posted double digits in the last three games - 18 at Georgia, 14 vs. Illinois, 13 at Santa Barbara. She has tied her career-high 18 points three times already this season.

Tupelo-native White is three steals shy of taking over first place in the MSU career steals category. White has 236 career steals and is looking to take over her first MSU career chart and surpass Kunshinge Sorrell who tallied 238 during her career from 1986-88.

Junior guard transfer Burns has become the leading rebounder for State averaging 6.3 rpg. She has accumulated 34 offensive and 48 defensive to spur the MSU offense. Burns is also the only Lady Bulldog to start all 13 games.

Tennessee (11-1) secured its first conference win over Arkansas, 83-44, at home on Thursday. It is the fourth win since suffering its first loss of the season to then fifth-ranked Texas, 70-60. The Lady Vols have experienced two overtime wins and six victories over top 25 teams this season. Underclassmen junior Shyra Ely and sophomore Shanna Zolman are posting double digits for UT. Ely is putting up 13.6 ppg and 7.9 rpg. Zolman is averaging 12.0 ppg.
