Lady Bulldogs face Bama in Tuscaloosa

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs (6-10, 1-3) look to add to their first win in the conference when traveling to Alabama (10-7, 2--2) to face the Crimson Tide on Sunday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. CT.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated Kentucky Thursday night in their first SEC win of the season, 80-67. This marks the fourth straight time the Wildcats have been defeated in Starkville. Near perfect free throw shooting helped elevate MSU, going 17-for-19 from the line (89.5 percent). State is fourth in the league with a 70.6 overall percentage and junior guard Tan White's 12 free throws made were a career and league high.

White is leading State averaging 18.4 ppg, third best in the conference. Junior guard Tiania Burns shot well behind the arc, posting a career-high 5-for-6 three-pointers against Kentucky. Burns is averaging 14.6 ppg and 6.1 rpg.

Alabama leads the series 31-5 and is 14-2 in Tuscaloosa. MSU took the last meeting Jan. 20, 2003 in Starkville, 72-56, after leading the entire game. The Lady Bulldogs shot 81.0 percent from the free throw line going 17-for-21 from the stripe. MSU also recorded 32 points in the paint to Alabama's 20 and tallied 12 fast break points to the Tide's four. The Lady Bulldog other wins are spread out over three other decades ('70s, '80s, '00s).

Alabama (10-7, 2-2) looks to break its two-game SEC losing skid on Sunday. The Crimson Tide most recently fell to Tennessee, 72-51, and Auburn, 70-61. UA went 8-5 in non-conference play and holds a 5-2 record at home. Junior guard Monique Bivins leads the Tide with 12.5 ppg and 4.2 rpg. Freshman guard/forward Navonda Moore is also averaging double digits with 11.2 ppg.
