"I was glad to finally give him a start and let him pitch. He has been throwing pretty good in intrasquad games. He's got good stuff. It's just a matter of him getting his pitches down in the (strike) zone. The first inning, their running game bothered him a little bit but we worked through some things in between innings. I thought he settled down and pitched pretty good after that."
You don't really have many left-handers, so he should be a vital part of this staff?
"He is going to be a big part of it. The role he pitches in we aren't certain of yet, but you want a left-hander in the bullpen. I think if we can continue to get him pitching like he did today, then he can be very valuable in the pen. But, there is always a chance he could be a mid-week starter and go a short outing on Tuesday or Wednesday and help us out on the weekend in the pen."
I know it's still very early in the season and you have only seen most of the pitchers once, but what is your impression of your pitching, so far.
"I feel good. One thing that I like is we aren't walking guys. Guys are throwing strikes. Now, as the competition picks up, we will start to look for more quality strikes."
