Class of 2005 Prospect - MS OL/DL Calvin Wilson

Calvin Wilson (Hattiesburg HS, 6-6.5, 335, 5.3) has a great chance to be one of the top lineman prospects in the state of Mississippi this coming season. With his size and speed combination, college coaches will be beating a path to Hattiesburg to see this All-Area selection play this coming season.

Calvin Wilson Profile:

Calvin, who also plays basketball, is a very athletic player who moves extremely well for a big man. In fact, a Mississippi high school head football coach that saw him play basketball this season called me to tell me about how athletic he is.

A starter since the 10th grade, Calvin played noseguard and defensive tackle that first season. Since then, he has become a starter at offensive tackle and defensive tackle.

Based on the number of colleges sending him letters, college coaches definitely like what they have seen, so far.

"LSU, Florida, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Marshall, Auburn, Nebraska, Arkansas and Colorado are sending me letters," said Calvin. "Once the season started, the letters started flowing in from everywhere."

He's also been active as far as attending college Junior Days this spring, having attended three. The coaches at all three colleges let it be known to Calvin that they were very impressed with him.

"I went to LSU, Ole Miss and Alabama's Junior Days," said Calvin. "(The coaches) said I was a pretty good athlete and that I was going to be highly recruited by them."

With college summer camps so important in the recruiting process, Calvin has also begun to think about the lucky colleges that will receive a visit from him.

"I know I am going to go to LSU and Ole Miss and I'm thinking about going to Auburn," said Calvin.

Although Calvin, who plans on majoring in Business Management in college, said he is still open when it comes to colleges that he is most interested in, he does have a list, including two that are currently very high on his list.

"LSU and Ole Miss are probably the top two," said Calvin. "When I went to their Junior Days, they had nice facilities and their academics seemed right. LSU just built a big academic center. That really impressed me."

When asked if there were other colleges that he would like to see become more involved in his recruitment, Calvin said, "the University of Miami, South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee and Auburn."

Although it's too early to tell at this time, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Calvin winds up being one of the top linemen in the south this coming season due to his combination of size, speed and academics.
