Andre Thornton Profile:

How well did your team do this past season?
"We were 22-11 and made it all the way to the regionals this year."

Do you play AAU summer basketball?
"I played it last year but this year I chose to go to prep school in Conneticut instead of playing AAU."

Why did you and your teammates decide to go to prep school this summer?
"We were introduced to it mainly by our coach and guidance counselor. At first, none of us wanted to do it because we wanted to play ball, but as we learned more about it, we wanted to go."

What's the advantage of going to prep schools?
"We will earn two college credits."

How are you doing academically?
"I have a 4.5 (grade point average)."

You must be taking several accelerated classes.
"Yes sir, I'm taking three honors classes. I try my best to be a student-athlete and not just an athlete."

What colleges are mailing you questionnaires?
"Cincinnati, the University of Colorado, Mississippi State, the University of Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Temple, Syracuse...that's all that I can remember."

[Andre has been offered a scholarship by both Tennessee and Colorado. According to Mitchell HS Athletic Director Henry Baskins, all three players are expected to take an unofficial visit to Mississippi State this coming fall.-Gene]
