Class of 2006 Prospect - TN SG/PG Brandon Powell

Brandon Powell, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound point guard from Mitchell High School in Memphis, Tennessee, who averaged approximately 15 points per game last season, is one of the top junior-to-be players in the state of Tennessee.

What position do you play?
"Point guard, shooting guard and small forward. But I start at shooting guard."

What makes you such a good player?
"Probably the way I handle myself on the court, my shooting and how well I listen to my coach."

What schools have sent you questionnaires?
"Memphis, Tennessee, Indiana, Stanford, Mississippi State, Virginia...I can't remember all of them."

Based on the teams that are recruiting you, you must be a pretty good student.
"Yes sir, I have a 3.3 grade point average."

Who is instilling in you that grades are very important?
"Mainly my mother and my coach."

What are your plans this summer?
"I plan on going to a (prep) school in Massachusetts. If I don't, I will attend the Adidas Superstar Camp in Atlanta, Georgia on July 7th through the 11th."

Have you grown up a fan of any particular college?
"No, not really."

Are there any colleges that you like to watch play on television?
"I like to watch Memphis and Louisville and Memphis and Cincinnati go at it. I also like to watch Duke and North Carolina and Mississippi State and Kentucky."

[Brandon, is an excellent student who has a 3.3 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. He has been offered a scholarship by both Tennessee and Colorado, according to one of his teammates. According to Mitchell HS Athletic Director Henry Baskins, all three players are expected to take an unofficial visit to Mississippi State this coming fall.-Gene]
