Meridian High School was once known as a great producer of D-I talent. Over the past few years, the talent coming out of the school has been down somewhat. With this year's senior and junior crop of players, that is definitely about to change.
A couple of senior offensive linemen that are receiving serious attention from D-I colleges are Brian Leggett and Chris Spencer. You've read the article about Chris Spencer on my site. Well, Brian Leggett might be even more highly thought of at this stage of the recruiting process.
So far, he has received letters from almost 20 schools, including colleges from conferences such as the SEC, C-USA, the ACC, the Big 12, the Big Ten and even some Ivy League schools and service academies.
He has also received several calls from coaches.
He's also seen several college coaches come through his school during the May evaluation period.
With the summer now upon him, Leggett is starting to turn his attention to which college football camps he will attend this summer.
"I am going to the Ole Miss Senior Camp and Alabama," said Leggett, a top student in the classroom with a 3.8 gpa and a 21 act. "I'm also going to Southern Miss late in June."
As for what schools have caught his eye, two stand out.
"Ole Miss and West Virginia are at the top of my list," Leggett said with almost no hesitation. "It then goes down to Southern Miss, Alabama, Army and Marshall."
One Mississippi university not mentioned on his list is Mississippi State. Leggett explained why.
"They haven't shown much interest yet, so I'm kind of debating about them," said Leggett, a very strong youngster who maxes out at 330 pounds on the bench and 550 on the squat rack.
With Mississippi State head coach Sly Croom scheduled to visit Meridian High School today, that could very well change in the near future.
Look for additional Brian Leggett updates as the recruiting season heats up.
