Matt Richardson Profile
Did you have the kind of spring that you hoped for?
"Yeah, but I had a lot of injuries. I pulled my groin, my hamstring and broke my nose. I missed a couple of series due to the hamstring."
What are your plans for this summer?
"I was supposed to play in the Northwest League and I was supposed to go to China with the Junior College Junior Team USA, but I don't think I will be able to do either because I got hurt in Sunday's game and will now have to have shoulder surgery."
What kind of shoulder injury was it?
"I tore my labrum. It's just orthoscopic, but I have to wear a sling for four weeks and can't swing a bat for three months. The doctor said I should be ready to go in the fall. I got the surgery on Tuesday."
That pretty much knocked the Major League Baseball Draft out for you, didn't it?
"Yeah, this year."
Did Major League Baseball scouts follow your progress this year?
"I had several teams follow me this year."
What schools did you officially visit?
"I just visited Kentucky and Mississippi State. I had Western Kentucky and Auburn lined up but I went ahead and decided to go to Mississippi State."
What was it about Mississippi State that you liked so much?
"The tradition and their field and stadium. I also wanted to play down south and in the SEC. I liked the coaches and Starkville, too."
