MSU Baseball Signee 3B/RHP Chad Crosswhite Update

Gene's Page recently did an interview with Mississippi State baseball signee Chad Crosswhite, a 6-1, 200-pound third baseman/right handed pitcher. Chad talked about his spring, his plans for the summer and things he wants to work on as he prepares for his freshman year at Mississippi State.

Chad Crosswhite Profile

How did you do this spring?
"I hit .345 with 9 doubles, 20 walks, 7 strikeouts, 2 home runs, 17 RBI and 22 runs scored. Pitching, I had an ERA of 0.95, walked 13 and had 83 strikeouts. We were 22-6."

What were some things you tried to improve on during the spring?
"I had to learn how to hit curveballs. The ratio this spring was probably three curveballs to one fastball. I had a lot of walks. That was frustrating because I usually don't walk a lot. During the middle part of the season I went into a slump, but toward the end I came out of it. I think that will help me in college because you are going to have ups and downs."

Do you know what your fastball velocity was this spring?
"I think I averaged around 86 to 87 and topped out at 88 and 89 a bunch."

What are your plans for this summer?
"I'm playing with Mr. Charlie Russell's Jackson 96'ers."

How many games will they play this summer?
"I think we are playing 55."

Are there any certain things you plan on working on this summer as you prepare to go to college this fall?
"I'm hitting the weight room pertty hard. I'm also going to work on my speed and my velocity. Hitting-wise, I'm going to try to hit to the middle and the opposite field. I'm not going to try to pull the ball much."
