The Bulldogs' starting center fielder turned in a stellar weekend at the plate and in the field, hitting at a .727 clip while playing error-free on defense. Hunter went 4-for-4 in MSU's regional-opening game against Texas Tech, had hits in his first seven plate appearances and finished with an 8-for-11 weekend. Hunter (.311) lashed a double, his third home run of the
season and drove in a team-leading five runs.
Host Georgia Tech turned back Texas Tech 5-3 in Sunday's regional championship game at Russ Chandler Stadium to advance to this weekend's
super regional competition.
Mississippi State concluded its 114th season of baseball with a 35-24 record after splitting elimination round games Saturday. State held off
Jacksonville State 7-6 in Saturday's opener but Texas Tech rallied late in the nightcap to claim a 14-7 decision, ending the Bulldogs' postseason run.
