Benji moved from Natchez, Mississippi to Jackson, Mississippi at the conclusion of his ninth grade year. A starter for a few games on the varsity level at Natchez as a ninth grader, Benji continued that by starting for Jackson Academy this past season. For the season, he rushed for over 700+ yards.
Still 16 years old, Benji, a good student, maxes out on the bench at 250 and the squat at 405. In fact, Benji has proven in track his strength, winning the state championship this past spring in the shot put with a toss of 48 feet. His longest throw was 50' 8".
According to his coach, Joey Hawkins, Benji has "super hands and is a load when he runs."
Once SEC head coach has already taken notice of Benji, Mississippi State head coach Sylvester Croom. According to Coach Hawkins, Coach Croom, when he happen to see Benji while taking an evaluation visit to Jackson Academy this past May, told Coach Hawkins how impressed he was with Benji's overall size and frame.
Although it's very early in the recruiting process, so early that he can't even receive recruiting letters or calls, Benji does have at least one school that he likes: Mississippi State.
"I'm a (Mississippi) State fan," said Benji. "I've watched them on tv and I went to the LSU game last year."
While he is a fan of Mississippi State, they aren't in his summer camp plans as of now. Two other colleges are.
"I went to Ole Miss (Senior Day Camp) this year and I'm about to go to LSU this coming Saturday," said Benji.
Look for more on Benji as he continues his still young career.
