WHAT THE COACHES LIKE ABOUT HIM:
"Every camp that I have gone to, the coaches told me that they really liked the way my body frame is. I'm real lean, which is how they like their guys to be when they come in. A lot of them have said that they like my footwork when they've watched film of me."
MAY TELEPHONE CALLS FROM COACHES:
"I received a lot of calls in May. Schools that called included Vanderbilt, Memphis, Alabama, Arkansas and Marshall. I also received a call from Coach Beamer of Mississippi State."
"I've received verbal offers from Memphis and Vanderbilt and Mississippi State has sent me a written offer. Mississippi State's offer was on June the 8th and was signed by Coach Croom."
"Since Mississippi State has offered me a scholarship, I would have to say them. I had talked to them before, but after they offered, it has kind of opened up a whole new perspective on things. (Others include) Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Memphis. I would also have to say Alabama because they have been showing some interest in me, too. That is pretty much it."
PLAYING IN THE SEC:
"I would love to play in the SEC because it is one of the best conferences in the nation. I would love to face the competition in it."
WHEN HE WILL MAKE HIS DECISION:
"I've thought about that and have talked about it with my parents. I'm going to play out my senior year and just enjoy playing in front of all the scouts. I'll probably take my visits after the season is over with, then sign in February on Signing Day."
HIS OPINION OF MISSISSIPPI STATE:
"I really like (MSU assistant coach Shane) Beamer, the coach who recruits this area. He is a nice guy who is very outgoing and very outspoken. I talked to him at their camp a lot. He introduced me to all the coaches at State. The thing I really respected was the entire coaching staff sat down and watched my film. Even though it was Coach Croom's decision as to who he gives a scholarship to, I think they all decide what they like on film. Everybody I talked to said they really liked what they saw on my film.
"It was my first time to meet (MSU head) Coach Croom. Both my parents really liked him, which I think is a plus because I want them to like the head coach as much as I do. They thought he was very soft spoken and a real outgoing guy. I liked the fact that he was an offensive lineman, too, because he knows when he sees a good one.
"I got to meet (MSU OL coach J.B. Grimes) a little bit. I knew a little about his background. I know that he has coached at Texas A&M. I was real impressed with that because they are a real big school and also have a real good football program. I also like that he has sent players to the NFL. I think, because of that, he can bring a lot to State. I think he also said that 11 of the NFL teams are running the same type of offense that State runs. I really like that."
HIS OPINION OF ARKANSAS:
"Before the camp, I had gone up there for an unofficial visit. We really liked the campus and thought it was beautiful, just like State's campus. It's like State where everything (on campus) is close together. You don't have to worry about catching a bus to go to a class. It's not spread over acres and acres.
"I really like (Arkansas head) Coach Nutt. I can see some similarities between him and Coach Croom. He was also very well-spoken like Coach Croom. I really liked their (offensive) line coach, Coach Markuson, too."
HIS OPINION OF VANDERBILT:
"I've been to their Junior Day and a basketball game. I like that they are a real good academic school and the fact that they really want their guys to succeed not only on the field but in the classroom."
HIS OPINION OF MEMPHIS:
"I know a little bit about them. I enjoy watching football games on Saturday, watching different teams. I've watched some of their games. I haven't really gotten to see their school because when I went to their Junior Day I went to the Pyramid and met their coaches and watched a basketball game."
HIS OPINION OF ALABAMA:
"I went down to their Junior Day. It's kind of funny because it seems like at all of these schools football is the focal point. Mississippi State and Arkansas were the same way. I really liked that the people seem to be so excited about their football programs.
"I talked to their line coach a little bit. They were having a spring practice. That was really my first time to watch college football up close. I was impressed with that. Something that threw me off was I was expecting their offensive linemen to weigh over 300 pounds. Their offensive line coach said, 'oh no, our biggest guy probably weighs 295 to 296.' To me, they looked like they weighed 300 pounds."
