Sabree Thomas, who lived in Philadelphia, PA., the first 14 years of his life prior to moving to Jacksonville, FL., is a tight end that is hard to come by, a blocking tight end. In fact, according to Thomas, that is one of the main things that coaches like about him.
"(The coaches) like how I stay on my block and how I never give up," said Thomas. "They said they like my agressiveness and that I look like a player that is ready to play for them."
With the size to play either tight end or defensive tackle, which position does Thomas prefer?
"It really doesn't matter to me," said Thomas. "A lot of the colleges want me to play defense, but they said they would rather I play where I am most comfortable."
Thomas, who received May recruiting calls from schools such as Florida, Indiana, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Louisville, West Virginia and Georgia, among others, already has several written scholarship offers.
A couple of those schools have made his tentative favorites list, but the in-state schools are receiving the most attention from him, as of now.
What does he like about each school?
"That is the number one school that I want to go to since my mom is down here," said Thomas. "I like how they use their tight ends. And they might want to use me as a defensive player."
"I like how they run their offense. It is sort of how our school does their offense."
"They are straight. I like how they have their defense set up. They all look like they are going to the ball." [Sabree told me straight means that they are a great team.-Gene]
"I can't really say much about them other than that they are a really good team. I didn't have much of a chance to watch them play on tv."
"They are straight, too."
Although they didn't make his initial list, since my website covers Mississippi State and Sabree told me that they offered him a scholarship, I asked him his thoughts about them.
"I know a little bit about them," said Thomas. "(Cornerbacks) coach (Shane) Beamer called me (in May)."
Look for future updates on this talented youngster in the coming months.
