Two Basketball Bulldogs Head to Dominican Republic

The season is months away but a couple of basketball Bulldogs will be playing real games next week. Real games, real far from home, that is.

Senior center Marcus Campbell and freshman forward Charles Rhodes will be on the island of Santo Domingo during the first week of August, on the rosters of two SCORE (Sharing Christ Our Redeemer) All-Star teams traveling to the Dominican Republic. Campbell will be on the primary college club, while Rhodes is on a high school lineup that will play in preliminary games.

The slate, as provided by SCORE this week, lists games with San Lazaro on August 2; Mauricio Baez on the 3rd; and a matchup with the Dominican Republic national team on the 4th in the Sports Palace, where the Pan American Games are held.

The athletes will also take part in humanitarian work during the week with visits to orphanages and transporting food to villages of Haitian refugees.

Campbell has not been on campus this summer, but has participated in a couple of ‘big man' camps and worked on his game. Rhodes was in Starkville much of the off-season conditioning and playing pick-up games and preparing for the rookie season.
