Class of 2005 Prospect - MS DL Louis Ellis

Louis Ellis (6-4, 293, 4.8), a senior defensive lineman who plays for Lanier High School in Jackson, Mississippi, is, in my opinion, one of the top two defensive linemen in the state of Mississippi this year. Louis, who recorded 15 sacks last season (6th best in the state), was selected first-team All-Metro for the Jackson area and Defensive Player of the Year in region 3-4A.

Louis Ellis Profile:

Louis, who I feel is one of the top three seniors in the state of Mississippi after watching almost all of the top players in the state last season, committed to Ole Miss early in the recruiting process. Since that time, there have been very strong rumors that he has backed off of that commitment. In fact, he confirmed that rumor with a very quick and very short answer.

"No," said Louis, when asked if he is still committed to Ole Miss.

That's not the only thing that has changed. He was also rumored to be transferring to a small Christian school in the Jackson area, but has decided to stay at Lanier High School. "I was going to transfer, but I changed my mind, " said Louis. "I'm still (at Lanier)."

Now that he is no longer committed, he has recently attended a couple of college camps. "I attended USM and Mississippi State," said Louis, who received May evaluation calls from LSU, Southern Miss, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Alabama coaches.

With scholarship offers from Southern Miss, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Auburn, Louis currently has three schools at the top of his list. "I like Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Southern Miss." He also mentioned that he has some interest in LSU.

Having been interviewed so often, Louis, who is up to 293 pounds after playing at 270 last season, has become an old hand at recruiting interviews. When asked what he liked about each of the three schools at the top of his list, he didn't beat around the bush with long answers, but quickly said, "I like the coaches and schools of all three of them."

When asked if any one of those three stood out over the other two, he quickly answered the question with one simple word, "No."

Look for additional updates on this extremely talented defensive lineman with the strength to play defensive tackle and the quickness to play defensive end.
