The last time TheInsiders interviewed Quinton, he had written offers from North Carolina, Tulane, Mississippi State, UT-Chattanooga and Akron. He has added an additional offer since then. "I have one more offer, East Carolina," said Quinton, who received his first offer in early June from Mississippi State after talking to his recruiting coach Guy Holliday during the spring evaluation period.
A humble youngster, Quinton said he is surprised by all the recruiting attention that he is receiving. "Recruiting is fun, but I didn't really think it would be happening to me, so it's a shocker to me."
However, despite being shocked by all the attention, he understands why he is being recruited. "Coaches said they liked my highlight tape because I come off the ball very fast and I am very aggressive. That's basically what they see."
Surprisedly, Quinton doesn't see the same thing, at least not on his highlight tape. "I don't even like my highlight tape. I feel like I can be better than what I was last year. I had good work ethic (last year), but this summer I have worked harder than I did last summer because I have something that I'm working for."
In mid July, Quinton told TheInsiders' Ryan Jordan his top five were North Carolina, Oklahoma, Auburn, Mississippi State and Miami. However, he was reluctant to name favorties this time. "Right now, everyone is my favorites even without an offer," said Quinton, who is being recruited as a defensive end and outside linebacker.
Since he wasn't ready to list favorites, I asked him what he knows about the schools that have showed enough interest in him to offer scholarships. He knew a little bit about two, but didn't know much about the others.
North Carolina - "They have good tradition, school-wise and sports-wise."
Mississippi State - "I know that they recruit heavy in Georgia. They also have a good head football coach right now, coach Sylvester Croom. I know a good bit about him, so that's why I figure he is a good coach."
Tulane - "I don't really know much about them."
UT-Chattanooga, Akron, East Carolina - "I don't really know much about any of the other colleges."
Quinton, despite not naming favorites, does have a recruiting plan and knows what he is looking for in a school. "It's going to be after the season before I really think about (recruiting)." As for what he is looking for in a school, he said, "I'm looking at the social (life), academics and the athletic department."
Stayed tuned for additional updates during the upcoming season on this talented defensive end/linebacker.
