Lee, who is not only a great football player but a great track athlete (3rd in state in the triple jump) and good basketball player (All-District selection), has flown under the recruiting radar screen somewhat, despite receiving spring recruiting calls from Louisiana-Monroe, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Memphis and Alabama.
Until recently, two schools - USM and Memphis - had been showing him the most attention. For reasons unknown to Lee, that changed two weeks ago.
"USM has been showing the most interest in me, but Mississippi State has started a lot now," said Lee, who recorded 114 tackes and 12 sacks last season. "USM and Memphis send (a letter) about every other day. Mississippi State sends something almost everyday now. That started about two weeks ago. I'm not sure why."
That interest appears to have made a favorable impression on Lee, who was selected the Defensive Player of the Year in region 7-3A football, because he lists them among his top five schools. "My favorite schools are USM, Mississippi State, Auburn, the University of Memphis and I would say Virginia Tech because they have been one of my favorite colleges," said Lee, who attended summer football camps at LSU, USM and Southwest Community College.
As for which recruiting coaches have made the most favorable impressions on him, Lee mentioned two off the top of his head. "For Mississippi State my recruiting coach is Coach Beamer. Coach Johnson is my recruiting coach for USM."
Lee explained what he likes about his fav five schools.
USM - "I like the coaching staff. But I haven't gone over there for a visit. I just went to their camp and talked to them on the phone."
MSU - "I would say location. Another big thing I like about them is the way their coach (Shane Beamer) talked to me. They've also sent me a lot (in the mail) about Coach Croom."
Auburn - "I haven't talked to their coach. I've seen them on tv."
Memphis - "Their coach came down to our school. He didn't talk to me but to my head coach. He called me (during the spring evaluation period) and talked for about 20 minutes. They wanted me to come up for a visit but I couldn't make it."
Virginia Tech - "They have been one of my favorite colleges since I was a little kid."
