Class of 2005 Prospect - MS RB/LB Trey Hopson

Trey Hopson (Pascagoula HS, 5-10, 218, 4.5) is an outstanding senior running back and middle linebacker from the Mississippi Gulf Coast area. He is hearing from all the in-state schools and several out-of-state colleges.

Trey Hopson Profile:

Trey, not only an excellent football player but an excellent student in the classroom, heard from several colleges during the spring evaluation period. "I talked to Rice's head coach for about an hour," said Trey. "Southern Miss, Ole Miss and Mississippi State called."

So far, he has received one scholarship offer. "Rice offered me," said Trey, a strong youngster who benches 325 pounds and squats 485.

As for which schools have made his list of favorites, Trey, a first-team All-Region selection as a junior, mentioned LSU and Rice first. The head coach at Rice has really made an impression. "When I talked to their head coach, he seemed real cool," said Trey. He also mentioned the in-state schools and one other out-of-state school. "I like all of the Mississippi colleges; Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Southern Miss. I also like the Florida Gators."

Trey, who rushed for 1,361 yards last season, talked about each of his favorites.

LSU - "I received letters from them all the time. They seem like they are really interested in me. I like the coaching staff and they had a pretty good team last year, also."

Rice - "I haven't really heard a lot from them, but the main factor is the head coach appears to be really cool. He and I talked four about an hour like we were friends. We were really kicking."

Mississippi State - "(Pascagoula head coach) Bland graduated from MSU. He has told me a lot about them and how good Coach Croom is. He doesn't really try to influence me; he just tells me what he knows about them. I really haven't had a a lot of contact with them. I've got a big book (a media guide) from them about Coach Croom and all the players. "

Ole Miss - "One thing I can say about Ole Miss is they are a pretty good team. They were the first school that ever wrote me and they were writing me every week, sometime twice a week. After every one of their games, they sent me a letter, telling me what happened in their games. Most schools don't do that, but they do it every week. I kind of like that because they keep you updated on everything."

Southern Miss - "I know a lot about their campus, but not really a whole lot about their football team. They had an alumni meeting and I went to it. I don't know much about them other than that."

Florida - "They send letters to me. I like their head coach and how he is. They came to the school to see me, too."
