Jesse is a player that I have known about since he was a freshman in high school. His former head coach, Robert Morgan, told me that he felt Jesse would be one of the top players in the state when his senior season rolled around. Based on the response Jesse received during the spring evaluation period, he was right on the money. "Alabama, Mississippi State, USM, Ole Miss, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Oklahoma State called me during May," said Jesse, a solid student who plans on taking his ACT in October.
He explained what he likes about each.
Ole Miss - "I like the way Coach Hobson talks to me. When I talk to him, I feel at home with Ole Miss. I like that feeling because that's the feeling that I want. Ole Miss is in Mississippi and I do want to stay close to home."
Mississippi State - "I have been up there so much. I've been going to State for camps since my 9th grade year. I went to their camp this year, but I have an injury right now so I couldn't play. I've been going there for so long that I know the campus and it feels like home, too. And with (recruiting) Coach McCorvey, I feel comfortable with him, too."
Southern Miss - "The same reason (as Mississippi State), I have been going there since my 9th grade year. I know the campus. (Recruiting) Coach Johnson makes me feel comfortable."
Arkansas - "All of my family members are Arkansas fans. I pretty much grew up with Arkansas."
Alabama - "My uncle stays in (Birmingham) Alabama, so I would have help if I choose to go to Alabama. But I haven't really been there, so I don't know a lot about them."
Auburn - "They are the same reason (as Alabama). I received a letter from them the other day talking about Cadillac (Carnell Williams) and Ronnie Brown and how close their relationship is. Their team makes me feel like, if I would go there, I would have upperclassmen to show me the ropes."
West Virginia - "I really don't know too much about them at all. It would be a new experience for me if I went there. And I like new experiences. If I went there, I would meet new people from all over."
Notre Dame - "They have always been one of the top ranked schools as far as academically and for football. I like that about them."
Since it appears that staying near to his home will play a major factor in his final decision, is there anything else that might give any of the local Mississippi colleges an added advantage? One thing could be the coaches who are recruiting him. When asked his favorite recruiting coaches, Jesse mentioned two. "I am going to have to say two, Coach Hobson from Ole Miss and Coach Johnson from USM. They hand write a letter to me and that that tells me that they are really interested."
