Class of 2005 Prospect - GA OL Marlon Davis

Marlon Davis (Carver HS in Columbus, GA, 6-4, 315, 5.0) is an outstanding offensive lineman from the state of Georgia. Marlon is receiving strong recruiting interest from a number of colleges, including Mississippi State.

Marlon Davis Profile:

Marlon, a very intelligent and likeable young man, is receiving serious recruiting attention from several colleges throughout the south. In fact, as of now, he has offers from eight. "The University of Alabama, Mississippi State University, the University of Clemson, Duke University, the University of Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Southern Miss and Louisville have offered scholarships," said Marlon.

Three of those schools have made his favorite list of four. "My favorites are Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi State and Florida," said Marlon, who also said, "Florida is close to offering."

A gifted athlete who inherited that athleticism from his dad, Carl, a former football player who played for the University of Wisconsin back in the 70's, Marlon is also a gifted youngster in the classroom with a 4.0 grade point average and an excellent SAT score. As you will see when he talks about his favorites, academics are a very important part of what he will look for in a college.

"Coach Drayton, that's my recruiting coach, was very straight with me. He talked about the offense that Coach Croom runs, the NFL type offense, and the way they run their program. I am very interested in that type program because he has been in the NFL for so many years. I've read about Coach Croom. I know he played for the University of Alabama under Bear Bryant. And that he had been in the pros for quite a few years coaching, with the last being the Green Bay Packers."

"The University of Alabama has a real good medical program and my major is going to be in medicine. Basically, my major will be in biology. My mother (Ida) is a big Alabama fan. Ever since we were young, she always liked Alabama."

"I talked to their head coach and their offensive line coach and they said that I could come in and get some early playing time. I don't know how true that is, but that's one thing I'm looking for in a school. I'm not saying I will start as a freshman, but I want to get some playing time. I could redshirt, but I don't want to be sitting on the bench until I'm a junior or senior."

"Basically, the same thing with Florida, their medical program and their football program. I (also) like their offensive scheme and how they pass-block."

Marlon, when discussing his favorites, spoke about things he is looking for in a college. He reiterated those and added a couple more when asked specifically what he is looking for in a college. "I'm looking for a real good coaching staff that is unified, a good academic program, how much playing time I can get on the field," said Marlon, who is also going to pay particular attention to the personality of the offensive line coach and how many players he has sent to the NFL.
