"I committed to Mississippi State last night," Shannon (MS) High School Red Raider star athlete Ken Topps told Gene's Page's owner Gene Swindoll at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday morning, December 12th. "I called (MSU offensive coordinator) Coach Woods and told him."

Ken, the fifth Clarion-Ledger Dandy Dozen selection to commit to Mississippi State, had previously received an in-home visit from Mississippi State offensive coordinator Sparky Woods.

When asked what were the determining factors as to why he chose Mississippi State, Ken said, "I just like the school and it is close to home."

A relative of former Ole Miss and Shannon High School star quarterback Romaro Miller, Ken also earned several other pre-season honors in addition to his Dandy Dozen selection, including being selected to the pre-season G&W Recruiting Report's Southeast All-Area Team as their quarterback and to Tom Lemming's pre-season Prep Football Report's All-American team.

Ken will take his official visit to Mississippi State on January 11th. When asked if he would take any other official visits, Ken said, "I doubt it."

According to an earlier interview with Gene's Page recruiting correspondent Charles Johnson, Ken places high emphasis on academics and will major in sports medicine and coaching.

Ken chose Mississippi State over Ole Miss, Southern Miss and Memphis.

Mississippi State, with Ken's commitment, now has twelve confirmed commitments.
