But just the fact that Spells was dressed in practice gear, participating in some aspects, and most of all not on crutches any more shows a more rapid pace of progress than originally hoped. How much he will be able to do in coming weeks is the new question, and Coach Sylvester Croom said he will not be in any hurry. "We're just going to wait and see what he does in practice before we make any type of decision."
Still Croom is already thinking of giving the all-state cornerback from Mays High School some sort of action this first fall in college, such as scout-team work as soon as he can be cleared. "He's going to get out here and do something!" Croom said. "But we don't want to rush it."
