However, Georgia State, taking advantage of foul trouble by State's Derrick Zimmerman and Michael Gholar, both of whom had to sit out the last few minutes of the first half, got the lead down to three at the end of the first half.
In the second half, the teams would battle back and forth for the first few minutes but Mississippi State would then start to build their lead back out behind the excellent play of guards Timmy Bowers (10 pts. in 2nd half) and Derrick Zimmerman (9 pts. in 2nd half).
Derrick Zimmerman led the Bulldogs with 15 points, 4 assists and 3 steals. Other Bulldogs in double digits included Timmy Bowers (14 pts.), Marckell Patterson (11 pts.) and Michael Gholar (10 pts.). Michael Gholar led MSU with 11 rebounds.
Thomas Terrell had 18 points and 11 rebounds for Georgia State.
Mississippi State, winners of 16 of their last 19 games dating back to the final nine games of last season, now takes off a few days prior to playing in the Las Vegas Classic (Dec. 20-22). Their first game will be against Richmond, December 20th. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. CT.
