MSU Baseball Scrimmage Notes

While Flagg and Ramsey had the best days at the plate and on the mound, several other players did well yesterday during the 11-inning scrimmage.

  • There are no more scrimmages the rest of the week.
  • Look for the foundation of the Palmeiro Center to be completed in approximately 30 days. Once that is completed, the building will start going up.
  • Although he allowed 2 runs in his 4 innings of work, Brad Corley, in front of the Stalker guns of 3 Major League Baseball scouts, threw his fastball 92 mph consistently. Once he started getting his curveball near enough to the plate so that is looked like a stike, his strikeout numbers picked up.
  • Speaking of scouts, MSU's Major League Baseball Scout Day is October 6th. On that day Coach Polk allows the scouts to come in and evaluate all of his program's draft-eligible players.
  • Saunders Ramsey once again had a great outing, striking out 5 in 4 innings, while allowing no runs on no hits and 2 walks.
  • Freshman lefthander Mitch Moreland also did well, striking out 2 in 2 innings of work. He allowed no runs on 2 hits and 1 walk.
  • The top hitter honors has to go to freshman outfielder Jeff Flagg. Jeff was 3-for-5 with 2 doubles (hit 5th and 6th of the fall), 2 runs scored and 3 RBI.
  • Other top hitters: Jeff Butts 2-for-4, 2B; Eli Dew 1-for-3, RBI; Ryan Fesmire 1-for-1; Brian McNeill 1-for-3; Michael Rutledge 4-for-5, 3B; Jeffrey Rea 3-for-5, RBI; Will Evans 2-for-3, 2 BB; Jon Mungle 3-for-5, BB, RBI; Wyn Diggs 2-for-5, 2B, 3B; Joseph McCaskill 2-for-3, BB, 2 RBI; Brooks Tinsley 1-for-3, RBI.
