Men's Tennis to Play in Athens, GA. This Weekend

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State's men's tennis team will continue its 2004 fall season this weekend (Sept. 24-27) at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga. The tournament, which is celebrating its 37th year of existence, will feature players from 29 schools from around the Southeast region.

Five Bulldogs will be competing for MSU in the event. In Division I singles, State's Luiz Carvalho, Florent Girod and Jose-Carlos Pinto will be in action. In Division III, MSU newcomers Josh Irey and Jordan Jones are entered.

In doubles, Carvalho and Pinto, ranked 13th nationally, will team to compete in the Division I draw, where they are the No. 4 seed overall. Irey and Jones will pair in Division II doubles competition.

Play begins in the tournament Friday morning at Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Two rounds of singles will be staged Friday with doubles starting Saturday.
