Bulldogs Conclude Tennis Play at SIC

ATHENS, Ga. - Mississippi State's men's tennis team concluded action at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships Sunday, as the Bulldogs fell in their remaining contests in the event.<P>

In Division I doubles play, 13th-ranked Bulldogs Luiz Carvalho and Jose-Carlos Pinto had reached the quarterfinals of that draw. They were edged there Sunday afternoon by Tennessee's tandem of Ockie Oosthuizen and Ben Rogers 8-6.

In singles play, the 110th-ranked Pinto dropped a tight 6-4, 7-6(3) decision to Nick Lane of Auburn in the quarterfinals of Division I consolation Sunday morning.

In Division III main draw singles, Bulldog newcomer Jordan Jones was a 6-1, 6-4 victim of Mercer's Arya Vafaei in the quarterfinals of that field.

State's next fall competition will come Oct. 1-10 at the ITA All-American Hardcourt Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn. The tournament is the first major of the college tennis season.

Quarterfinals - Arya Vafaei (Mercer) def. Jordan Jones (MSU) 6-1, 6-4.

DOUBLES - DIVISION I
Quarterfinals - Ockie Oosthuizen/Ben Rogers (Tennessee) def. #13 Luiz Carvalho/Pinto (MSU) 8-6.
