STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State's men's tennis team's 2004 fall schedule continues over the next week, when the Bulldogs will compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's All-American Hardcourt Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn. The event, being held at Chattanooga's Champions Club is the first major of the 2004-05 campaign.<P>
Action gets underway Friday with the prequalifying stages of the tournament, which will feature 196 singles players and 128 doubles teams from around the country. Entered in the prequalies for MSU in singles are junior Florent Girod and newcomers Josh Irey and Jordan Jones. Girod and Irey will team in doubles as well.
Those players will be looking to advance to the qualifying rounds (128 singles, 64 doubles) of the event, which start Monday and run through Wednesday. Already entered into qualifying for MSU are senior Luiz Carvalho and junior Jose-Carlos Pinto.
The qualifying round survivors then move on to the main draw (64 singles, 32 doubles) of the event, which starts next Thursday, Oct. 7. Carvalho and Pinto, ranked 13th nationally in doubles, are automatic entries into the doubles main draw.
