MSU Women's Golf Team Travels to Kentucky

STARKVILLE, Miss. Mississippi State University's women's golf team travels to the third annual Wildcat Fall Invitational on Fri., Oct. 1, in Lexington, Ky. The three-day event is hosted by the University of Kentucky and held at the University Club of Kentucky's Big Blue Course, a par-72, 6,150 yard course. The tournament will consist of 54 holes of medal play with team and individual titles.

"We have worked on our short game and putting a great deal since our last tournament," said head coach Christi Sanders. "I would like to see the scores go lower in competition from the fourth and fifth spots. It will be nice to see what Julia can do in her college debut after coming off a successful junior career."

Sanders will send seniors Janet Dyer and Beth Irwin, junior Stephanie Godare, sophomore Amanda Mathis and freshman Julia Huh to the links to compete for the Maroon and White.

The tournament field consists of Boston College, Eastern Kentucky, Florida Southern, Marshall, Murray State, Kentucky, Memphis, Miami, Ole Miss, Richmond and Western Carolina.

Last season, State finished second at this tournament with a three-round score of 941. Then-freshman Mathis led the squad for the second-straight tournament of the year with her third-place performance (79-73-76). Vanderbilt took the top team honors, and Louisville's Meghan Little was the individual medallist.

In their last tournament, the Lady Bulldogs finished second out of 14 teams, with Irwin taking third overall at the UA/Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
