Johnny Allen (Grenada HS, 6-4, 210, 4.74) is a very good athlete who plays quarterback for Grenada High School in Grenada, Mississippi. He is also a very good baseball player who is receiving recruiting attention in that sport, also. Johnny talked recruiting with Gene's Page.

Johnny, an excellent student who will easily qualify academically, earned All-Area as a junior. He benches 265 pounds and squats 415.

What camps did you attend last summer?
"I went to Mississippi State and Southern Miss. That is all football-wise. The rest of the camps I went to were baseball."

What baseball camps did you attend?
"I went to Ole Miss'. I also went to San Francisco for a showcase."

What colleges are calling you?
"I have talked to Arkansas State and Mississippi State (in football) and Ole Miss and Delta State in baseball."

Have you received any scholarship offers?
"No sir."

Which sport do you prefer?
"I would rather play baseball but the money is not in baseball. You can't get a full ride playing baseball."

Who are your favorites in football?
"Probably (Mississippi) State and Memphis."

Has Memphis showed you much attention?
"They haven't called me, but they've called Coach McCrory weekly."

Who are your favorites in baseball?
"Ole Miss and Delta State."

What is Mississippi State and Arkansas State recruiting you for?
"State is recruiting me as a defensive player and Arkansas State is recruiting me as a quarterback."

Which do you prefer to play?
"I would rather play defense."

When you say State wants you to play defense, are you referring to free safety or linebacker?
"They are talking about strong safety. I am fast enough to play defensive back and I'm big enough to play with the linebackers."

Have you ever played strong safety?
"Yes sir, I play both ways."

I noticed when I saw you last Friday night at the Greenville/Grenada game you have a broken leg. When do you expect to be back playing?
"Six weeks."
