Matt Fast Commits to MSU

Oak Grove High School's Matt Fast (5-8, 160), the premier high school senior golfer in the state of Mississippi and one of the top 50 high school golfers in the nation according to Golf Week Magazine, has committed to Mississippi State. Matt, who had scholarship offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State and South Alabama, chose MSU over Ole Miss.

"I have committed to Mississippi State." - Matt Fast

What were the reasons you chose to commit to Mississippi State?
"I went up on my visit and really enjoyed it and got to know the team a little better. They have my coach just 20 minutes away (at Old Waverly), not only my coach but good friend also. I have friends going to both places, Ole Miss and State, but I just feel more comfortable at State. Both schools had good things about them, but it just came down to where I wanted to play and where I felt more comfortable."

When did you commit to Mississippi State?
"I think it was Monday night (October 25th)."

Was there any one thing that put MSU over the top?
"The fact that Old Waverly was 20 minutes away and the facilities were a little bit better than what they had at Ole Miss. And I feel like State has gotten a lot better this year than last year and I feel in two years that we will be just as good or the best team in Mississippi."

Who were the teams you officially visited?
"I visited South Alabama, State and Ole Miss. During the summer, a lot of coaches wanted to come to my house for (in-home) visits, but I told them early on that I wasn't really interested. In August, it was pretty much Oklahoma State, Mississippi State and South Alabama. I then ruled out Oklahoma State because I wanted to stay close to home. I ruled out South Alabama about 3 or 4 weeks ago. Then, I went on a (official) visit to Ole Miss and had a good time. But overall, I was more comfortable at Mississippi State and fit in better there."
