MSU is the third-highest ranked of the four SEC teams included in the preseason poll. Joining the 17th-ranked Diamond Dogs in the poll are No. 7 Louisiana State, No. 14 South Carolina and No. 20 Mississippi. Stanford nudged out Clemson and defending champion Miami for the top spot in the poll.

The Bulldogs, who host the UAB Blazers and Ohio State Buckeyes Feb. 22-24 in the season-opening National Bank of Commerce Classic, who ranked 23rd in Collegiate Baseball magazine's preseason poll announced last month. State returns 23 lettermen and most of the starting players from last year's 39-24 edition that captured the SEC Baseball Tournament and registered MSU's second consecutive advancement to the NCAA Super Regionals.
