James Newby is a 6-6, 260-lb. offensive line prospect from Athens, Alabama.

James was working on his father's farm when I caught up with him. Here is what he had to say:

So, how are you enjoying the recruiting process?
"Well, its different(laugh). It's a lot of attention and I'm not really used to it."

What schools are giving you the most attention?
"Louisville, NC State, Mississippi State. There are some others that have started calling me like Middle Tenneesee, and Southern Miss is talking to me a lot."

Do you have a favorite right now?
"Not really. I've about narrowed it down to Mississippi State, Louiville or NC State. I went to Louisville and really liked it and I'm suppossed to go to NC State pretty soon. I'll know pretty soon anyway."

I hear you will visit Mississippi State on the 11th, is that right?
"I'm supposed to."

What do you like about the top three schools you mentioned?
"Well, Phillip Rivers is at NC State. He was our quarterback in high school. And of course Blake is at MSU and he's told me a lot about it."

Do you know Blake Jones well?
"I don't know him well but I know him. He graduated the year before I got there. He has come back a couple of times and talked to me. And then Zeek Parker and McKell Troops have gone up to Louisville and I went up there and I enjoyed it. So those are my three picks right now."

What position to you see yourself playing in college?
"I've been told I'm going to make a good offensive tackle."

Why do you think you'll make a good offensive tackle?
"I don't know. I'm just going by what all the coaches are saying."

What are the coaches saying?
"They just said they liked my feet, lateral movement, and just good balance. And that I've got good size."

At this point as a player, what would you say your strengths and weaknesses are?
"I need to get bigger (laugh)."

Describe yourself as a player.
"Well, I can't really say."

Well, if I were to talk to your coaches, how would they describe your play?
"I would say I'm pretty competitive, I guess. I don't like to get beat. Thats about it. I work hard not to get beat."

I really appreciate your time. Thank you very much.
"Yes sir."

James was a very polite young man and seemed to be carefully considering his college choice. I got the impression that it was a difficult choice for him. I will try to call him back in a couple of weeks for an update.
