With the early signing period beginning today and lasting through next Wednesday, Mississippi State coaches from all sports, with the exception of football, are expected to sign some of the top players in the nation. Included in this article are lists of expected signees from several sports, including men's basketball, soccer, men's golf, women's golf and baseball.
Reginald Delk - 6-5, 190, Guard, North Side HS in Jackson, TN. Ranked the 14th best guard and 59th best player in the nation by Scout.com. Chose MSU over Auburn, Tennessee, Ole Miss and UAB.
Richard Delk - 6-5, 180, Guard, North Side HS in Jackson, TN. Depending on who you talk to, he is considered a top 150 to top 175 ranked player, nationally. Chose MSU over Auburn, Tennessee, Ole Miss and UAB.
Monta Ellis - 6-3, 175, Guard, Lanier High School in Jackson, MS. Ranked the 2nd best guard and 2nd best player in the nation by Scout.com. Chose MSU over numerous colleges.
Vernon Goodridge - 6-9, 220, Center, Philadelphia Christian Academy in Pennsylvania. Ranked the 3rd best center and 21st best player in the nation by Scout.com. Chose MSU over Pittsburgh and Georgetown.
Bethany Frazier - Jackson Academy in Jackson, MS.
Katelyn Graben - Gulfport (MS) High School.
Matt Fast - Oak Grove (MS) High School. The premier high school senior golfer in the state of Mississippi and one of the top 50 high school golfers in the nation according to Golf Week Magazine. Matt, who had scholarship offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State and South Alabama, chose MSU over Ole Miss.
Noah Goldman - Lake Mary High School in Longwood, Florida. A 2003 Polo Golf Honorable Mention All-American and ranked among the top 50 high school golfers in the nation by Golf Week Magazine. Chose MSU over New Mexico, Virginia, North Florida, Princeton and Notre Dame.
Leigh Phillips - Lamar School (Meridian, MS).
Ricky Bowen - 6-3, 175, RHP, Sumiton Christian School (Jasper, AL.). A hard-throwing right-hand pitcher who was selected 2A State Most Valuable Player, first-team All-State and All-Metro Pitcher of the Year. Chose MSU over South Alabama, Troy State, Southeast Missouri State and Samford. All offered scholarships. Academics: 4.0 GPA, 27 ACT.
Ryan Duffy - 6-1, 200, C/1B, Barron Collier High School (Naples, FL.). An outstanding hitter who is currently ranked 117th, nationally, by ProspectsPlus. Chose MSU over University of Central Florida, Stetson and Tulane. Academics: 3.8, 1040 SAT.
Nick Hardy, OF, Meridian Community College. He is originally from Madison, MS. and played at Madison Central High School. Will be a sophomore in eligibility and have four years to play three.
Cade Hoggard - 6-2.5, 210, OF/1B, Oxford High School (Oxford, MS.). First-team All-District and All-Area. Chosen Player of the Year by the Oxford Eagle newspaper. Chose MSU over Ole Miss and Delta State after unofficially visiting all three. All three offered scholarships. Academics: 3.3 GPA, 20 ACT.
Drew Hollinghead - 6-4, 215, RHP, Greene County High School. A 2004 second-team MAC 3A All-State selection as a junior. Chose MSU over Southeast Missouri State. Academics: 4.0, 25 ACT.
Matt Lea - 6-5, 215, RHP/INF, Houston High School (Germantown, TN.). Considered one of the top 50 players in the nation by ProspectsPlus. Offered scholarships by numerous colleges. Chose MSU over Ole Miss. Academics: 3.9 GPA, 27 ACT.
Andy Rice, 6-1, 190, OF/LHP, Itawamba Community College. Andy, a lefthander, also pitches. He is originally from Amory, MS. and played at Amory High School. Will be a sophomore in eligibility and have three years to play three.
Russ Sneed - 6-3, 190, SS/3B/RHP, Magnolia Heights School (Senatobia, MS.). Chosen All-MPSA, All-Conference. A very good athlete who is the starting QB for his school's football team. After unofficially visiting MSU and Ole Miss, chose MSU. Both offered scholarships. Academics: 3.85 GPA, 22 ACT.
Brandon Turner - 6-1, 170, INF/OF, Walker Valley High School (Cleveland, TN.). Made the All-District, All-Region and All-Area teams. Also was selected to the TBCA (Tenn. Baseball Coaches Association) Showcase team, 1 of just 20 players who made the east team. Chose MSU over Tennessee, Tennessee Tech and Troy State after officially visiting all four. Had offers from those schools as well as a few others. Academics: 3.0 GPA, 18 ACT.
Aaron Weatherford - 6-0, 171, RHP/INF, Fairhope High School (Fairhope, AL.). One of the top pitchers in the nation. ProspectsPlus lists this hard-throwing pitcher (88-91 mph fastball) among the top 150 players in the nation. Aaron chose MSU over LSU and Alabama. All three offered along with a host of other colleges. Academics: 3.75 GPA, 20 ACT.
